Kelly and Karly Sulphur Mountain, Banff Alberta,Summer 1995

Karly, Carbohydrate as I like to call her was a restless soul. In life she was full of dramatic tangents and contradictions- She also had a dynamite character.

Someone who came to visit said that if Karly touched your life you knew you had been touched- she sure left her mark.

Close family friends describe Karly as energetic, wise, witty, intelligent, shrewd, cocky, hilarious, and beautiful. They have hit the nail on the head.

Karly had more empathy than anyone I know, perhaps that is because she packed so many experiences into her short life.

I would like to share with you a poem by E. Brenneman
Her Journey’s Just Begun
Don’t think of her as gone away
Her journeys just begun
Life holds so many facets
The earth is only one…
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched…
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she was loved so much.

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along
the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand; one belonging to him
the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life
flashed before him, he looked back at the
footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path
of  his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned
the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once
I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me
all the way. But I have noticed that during
the most troublesome times in my life, there
is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand
why when I needed you the most, you would
leave me.”

The Lord replied, “My precious, precious
child, I love you and I would never leave you.
during your times of trial and suffering,
when you saw only one set of footprints, It was
then that I carried you.”
